Mao of The Trip

Day 1 - Farnham to Portsmouth

I had an 18 hour gap between two weeks on a sailing boat, and leaving for the trip, so the last few hours before departure were pretty frantic for both of us. We employed the very organised packing technique of making a huge pile of stuff and both taking things from the pile until we had no more room. Really thorough. Eventually we managed to finish packing and set off from St Andrews Church. It was lovely to see so many people at the church to say goodbye! Leaving St Andrews we had a fabulous escort all the way (up some proper hils) to applegarth cafe. Even more people were there to say farewell over coffee and cake (who knew we had so many friends).

It was a smaller group that set off from Applegarth towards Portsmouth, and by the time we stopped for lunch it was only Ali and Jim and us. We had a lovely picnic (thanks M&S) and then continued on alone.

After only getting lost a few times we arrived in Portsmouth early for the ferry and had time to go the seafront for an icecream (the first of many I feel).

Thank you so much to everyone who came to wave us off - we really appreciate it and miss you all already.
